Happy Monday and Happy 2020! I thought it would be fun to kick off the new year here on the blog with a try-on! I’ve had several friends mention that they would like me to share more work wear looks. Now, I know everyone’s work environment has slightly different style standards. My office is a business-casual vibe Monday through Thursday with casual Fridays. No matter your work environment, I hope this post gives you some style inspo!
Today, I am sharing a recent Loft and Kohl’s try-on full of tons of great work wear looks! I tried to find pieces that you could dress up or down so most of the shirts I’m sharing below you could easily pair with jeans. I really think there is something for everyone in this work wear try-on so let’s get into it!
Apologies in advance for the unclean dressing room mirrors (especially at Kohl’s). Let’s just pretend it’s a photo filter, k?
*For sizing reference, I’m 5’6″ and 125-ish lbs. I typically wear either a Small/Medium or Size 4 depending on the brand/fit.
Pink Bell Cuff Sleeve Shirt
I love the color and sleeve detail on this bell cuff sleeve shirt! It is semi-sheer so I would probably layer a cami underneath. You could tuck it in like I did, but it would also look cute untucked! I sized down to an XS.
In the above and below photo, I am also wearing a pair of Loft’s high-waisted black slacks, but I was not a fan of them. They were extremely stiff and uncomfortable and I did not find them flattering so I am not linking them, as I would not recommend them.
Floral Tank + Cardigan
This is one of my go-to work wear looks. A cute tank with a cardigan overtop + a pair of slacks. I thought this floral tank was so pretty! In the photo, I’m wearing a Small, but I would prefer to size down to an XS for a less frumpy fit. I would normally pair this tank with a black cardigan, but I could not find one in Loft (weird, right?!) so I grabbed this grey one.
I did not link this exact grey cardigan, as I wasn’t a huge fan. Instead, I linked a similar black cardigan that I would style with this look.
Blue Sweater + Maroon Pants
Another one of my go-to work looks is a basic sweater with slacks. Now, these pants are not your typical work slacks, but I had to get those black high-waisted pants (above) off so I tried on these super soft maroon pants. The pants are actually labeled ‘leggings’, but they do not fit like leggings at all. I think you could totally get away with wearing these to work, especially if your work environment is more casual. I’m wearing my true size (4) in these pants.
This sweater is such a gorgeous shade of blue! I would add a statement necklace or earrings with this sweater to dress it up a bit. I think a trendy pearl headband would compliment this look well, too.
Black and White Tie Neck Shirt
This shirt is so chic. It is super sheer (which is why I’m holding it out a bit) so you would definitely need to wear a cami underneath. I sized down to an XS in this shirt. I LOVE this shirt styled with the maroon pants! This shirt would also look cute tucked into a pencil skirt for work.
Mock Neck Shirt
I also love this knitted mock neck shirt styled with the maroon pants! This shirt would be a great basic top to have in your work wardrobe. You could add a long necklace, brooch or some statement earrings to dress it up a bit. This shirt is meant to fit loosely + the bottom of the shirt flairs out a bit on the sides.
Green Flow-y Basic Long-Sleeved Top
I’m all about the basics with my work wear looks. I think this flow-y long-sleeved shirt is a great basic piece to have in your work wardrobe. This is something cute and comfy that you can dress up with [black] work slacks and a blazer or you can dress it down with denim. I wouldn’t normally pair maroon pants with a green shirt, but I was not into those black slacks I tried on earlier.
Cream Open Cardigan
I added this open cardigan over top of the green flow-y shirt and I love it! I think this cardigan totally completes the look for work. This cardigan looks a bit like a blazer and it is SO soft and cozy which makes it perfect for the office (my office is always freezing!).
Again, the mirror in this Kohl’s dressing room was not the cleanest and my hair is incredibly frizzy/static-y at this point, so let’s just focus on the fashion below…LOL
Plaid Blazer + Black Tank + Skinny Ankle Pants
I LOVE THIS BLAZER! Unfortunately, it is unavailable on the Kohl’s website, but you might get lucky and find this in-store like I did! It is by POPSUGAR and for size reference, I’m wearing XS. Above, I linked two similar plaid blazers that are available on the Kohl’s website. As for the black tank, I have several similar tank’s in my closet that I wear to work on the regular. I love this stylish + professional look!
I only grabbed this one pair of black pants for the Kohl’s portion of my try-on and I love them! They are a stretchy pull-on pant with an elastic waist (no zipper/buttons). They are incredibly comfortable! For size reference, I’m wearing a Small.
I own this shirt in a dark teal, but I am loving this olive green shade! This shirt comes in a ton of colors and patterns and I think it’s a great work basic. I’m wearing a Medium because I prefer a more loose fit, but I would say this runs TTS because the Small fits me, too… just depends on how you like your shirts to fit.
Grey 3/4 Sleeve Blazer
I cannot say enough good things about the blazers by LC Lauren Conrad. I own several of them in different colors and they are my favorite work wear pieces in my closet. In the above photo, I’m wearing a Medium because that is all I could find at this Kohl’s, but I usually wear a Small in LC Lauren Conrad blazers.
I am in love with this shirt! There are red, pink and white hearts all over it – this would be the perfect Valentine’s look for work! You could pair this with red heels which I think would be SO cute. This is definitely another one of my go-to work wear looks. I love being able to throw on a nice long-sleeved shirt with some black pants and I’m out the door!
Black and White Elastic Waist Shirt
Another great work shirt! I love the elastic waist on this because sometimes dressy shirts can be a little too flow-y from a side view and can therefore be slightly unflattering. However, this shirt allows a more flattering fit.
Leopard Print Zip Neck Tunic
You guys know I love leopard print and this shirt is SO GOOD! It comes in a few different colors and patterns and it is SO versatile. You could wear it tucked out or tucked in, keep the sleeves long or roll them up to 3/4 length… and the adjustable zipper neckline is so fun! This shirt is definitely a work wear winner.
Long Cardigan + Pink Turtle Neck Tank
I am loving this cozy-chic look! This long cardigan is so soft and warm – perfect for my chilly office. And this chic pink tank is so fun – I love the collar! You could even dress this look up more with some heels and statement earrings.
Black and White Tie Waist Shirt
The new Nine West clothing line at Kohl’s has some great pieces! This top is so gorgeous for work – I just love the tie waist. I’m wearing a Medium, but would probably prefer a Small in this. You could also roll the sleeves up to 3/4 length for a different look!
Scalloped Hem Floral Shirt
This look is very much my vibe for the office. A simple, yet cute shirt with flower embellishments + black slacks. Easy-chic is what I’m all about… especially when I’m staring into my closet at 5 in the morning.
Tie Sleeve Hearts Shirt
Another cute shirt with hearts! I thought this hearts design was so unique and I love the tie sleeves! You could pair this with a red or maroon blazer or pants and some black or white booties or heels.
Polka Dot Bell Cuff Shirt
I love this fun take on a classic black and white polka dot shirt! The bell cuffs on the sleeves are adorable. This shirt would look great tucked out or tucked in. Pair it with any color pants (white, red, coral, teal…) in the spring for a different look!
That does it for this work wear try-on! I hope you found some new work wear pieces and/or work style inspiration from this post. Which of these work wear looks is your favorite?!
